happythoughts began in the basement of ian j.'s house during the middle of
the 1992-1993 school year when don, ian j., and ian k. were all sophomores in
high school. all of them had just started playing their instruments and had
been playing soccer together (and against each other) since childhood.
childhood antics aside, after making great amounts of noise for a few months,
these three kids decided to call themselves happythoughts. the name
happythoughts comes from a day when don had been indoctrinated with the story
of peter pan and wouldn't shut up between songs. he kept saying,
"happythoughts will make you fly!" finally, after the two ians grew tired of
hearing don's babble, the thought hit all three of them. they decided to call
themselves happythoughts, and since then have played music ranging from
ministry covers (oops!) in the beginning to music of their own which could be
classified as melodic pop/punk with an emo twist. now that the three have all
been split apart by college, they try to write music via email and short phone
calls. during breaks they get together to play shows, hang out, go dumpster
divining, and poke fun at whatever happens to be around. they are working on
putting out a 7" by the time they die.
"...finish each other's dick jokes, stick up for each other's
parents, and share the same noisy electric razor..."
--the greenday interview in spin magazine
happythoughts is a close knit family that survived the evil world of high
school and hopes to survive the evil college world and then the evil real
world. one knows why the other two piss off everyone else so much and
why it doesn't bother him. they all know the same jokes and share the
same taste for food. happythoughts is a single mind when together and
three individuals when separated. meet the individuals:
